Cones allow for precision control and fine, accurate lines in your henna art. They are the gentlest type of applicator for your hand and give the widest variety of line styles. You can adjust the width or size of the line by squeezing more or less and moving faster or slower. They are versatile, flexible and can be made in a variety of sizes to suite your personal preference. Tall, short, fat or skinny!

How to Roll a Henna Cone

Floraphane is the most popular choice for henna cone.

Mylar and Mylar film also work well.

Recycled potato chip bags, or plastic floral wrap from a bunch of flowers, just be sure to wash and dry first.

step-1a.pngGather your Supplies

  • Floraphane
  • Sharp scissors or a rotary cutter
  • Straight edge ruler
  • Cutting mat. If you're going to be doing a lot of henna, investing in a good rotary cutter and self healing mat really helps - check your local fabric store.
  • Tape, we recommend Scotch Brand Red Label. It withstands the essentials oils and freezing/defrosting.

step-2.png Cut the floraphane

  • Cut floraphane into 6x7 (or your preferred size) rectangles or triangles.

We prefer rectangles as they have an extra layer of material when rolled into the cone that helps to prevent leaks.

 step-3.png Get Rolling!

  • Grasp the upper right edge of the paper and fold left toward the center. The middle of the wide edge will become the point of the cone.
  • Continue rolling till the cone is formed. Use a small push-pull motion to make the cone the length and width you like.
  • Roll
  • Roll a little more

step-4.pngAdjust the opening size

  • When you come to the last bit, shift and pull the cone until the opening at the tip is the size you like. This can be adjusted until the opening is completely closed or has a pin-hole sized opening.

step-5.pngTape the tip

  • Tape down the little tail, the 1.5 inches left over at the tip.
  • Add a small piece of tape around the very tip of the cone, this will hold the teensy, tiny opening in place and prevent any slippage or unwrapping.

step-6.pngTape the outside and inside of the cone

  • Tape over the seam on the outside using 2 pieces of tape approximately 1.5 inches long.
  • Using a long pointy item such as a chopstick or long pointy scissors, put a pieces of tape inside the cone as far down as you can get it. Place another piece further up the inside of the cone to secure the inside and keep it from unrolling as you use it.

  • Stash away your cones to fill later
  • Prefill with henna paste and store in the freezer till you need them.
